After last matchday’s great performance and landslide victory in Mendoza, River Plate welcomed Racing at the Monumental Stadium with the goal of adding three points to reach the top positions in Zone A. The first half was very tight, especially in the midfield, but el Millonario was the protagonist.

One of the few dangerous plays came after a wonderful long-range pass from Enzo Pérez, but Alex Vigo wasn’t able to reach it comfortably on the right side and his shot went high. Even though River wasn’t able to bring about many goal situations, Racing waited at the back and responded with some runs up the field every once in a while, as in the case of a deflected shot by Fabricio Domínguez.

In the second half, River kept dominating the match and brought about dangerous situations, some of which were very definite. El Millonario was firm in the defense, during both isolated plays by Racing and set pieces. In the attack, Nicolás De La Cruz was close to scoring off a free kick, but Gabriel Arias responded well and also blocked the shot by Julián Álvarez on the rebound.

After a fortuitous play in which the ball almost entered the goal behind Arias’ back, Agustín Palavecino tried to score off a free kick and, then, Álvarez tried by means of a shot from outside the box. One of the clearest opportunities was at Agustín Fontana’s feet: a few seconds after coming onto the field, the forward wasn’t able to control the ball and Arias blocked his shot. The last chance was a free kick by Carrascal that missed Racing’s right goalpost.

Next Saturday, el Millonario will visit Arsenal.
