The first half was dynamic and entertaining, with several dangerous plays made by both teams. River threatened Velez right away, when Lucas Beltran recovered the ball and set up Esequiel Barco, who received the ball in the box and struck a deflected shot. The first goal was scored: Santiago Simon made an overlapping run following a pass from Milton Casco and Beltran sent the ball into the net to celebrate his goal. Off a corner kick, Jonatan Maidana collected a rebound and was close to setting the score at 2-0.

In Velez’s first penetrating run, Walter Bou was awarded a penalty on a one-on-one with Franco Armani and set the score at 1-1. Velez had the second scoring chance at Lucas Pratto’s feet, but his shot went high. River counterattacked: Agustin Palavecino struck a long-range shot and then celebrated Nicolas De La Cruz’s amazing goal: Simon downed the ball with a head touch and the Uruguayan scored a tremendous low volley.

River had a much better end to the first half, with clear plays that could have set the score at 3-1 at De La Cruz’s feet and Barco's failed dribbling attempt on a one-on-one with keeper Lucas Hoyos. For his part, Armani saved a shot from Luca Orellano off a rebound when running up the field from the back.

River had no trouble taking control of the match in the second half. In the 60th minute, the home team had the first scoring chance with a long-range shot from Lucas Janson, but Armani made a brilliant save. River’s keeper made another excellent save on a very dangerous cross from Pratto following a rebound. Braian Romero, who had just stepped onto the field, could have scored the third goal, but his right-footed shot was slightly off-target.

In stoppage time, the home team sealed the draw with a goal by Abiel Osorio. On the next matchday, River will welcome Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata on Wednesday evening, at the Mâs Monumental Stadium.
