On the second match day of the Diego Maradona Cup’s new stage, el Millonario visited Huracán, who had won in its debut. In the beginning, the home team made a very clear play with a crossed header by Lucas Merolla that slightly deflected off Franco Armani’s left goalpost. It didn’t take long for River to respond with a good play by Jorge Carrascal, and a low right-footed shot and a dangerous center pass by Fabrizio Angileri, who was not able to connect with Bruno Zuculini.

Then, the referee rightly disallowed a goal by Zuculini and Nico De La Cruz tried scoring off a free kick. The first goal was scored thanks to a good collective play: Angileri made a center pass, Rafael Borré barely headed the ball, and Matías Suárez celebrated the goal after rehearsing a pirouette. The second goal came right after that, by means of a center pass from the left by De La Cruz that went across the whole defense and into the goal by Facundo Cambeses’s left goalpost. Before the end, Suárez orchestrated a nice play that culminated in a cross shot that went outside.

In the second half, it was hard for River to keep the same dynamic as in the first half, even though it wasn’t too disturbed either, apart from a few approaches by Huracán. Briasco had a clear opportunity, but Armani responded confidently at the level of the first goalpost. Then, in a questionable penalty kick awarded by Germán Delfino, Andrés Chávez reduced the deficit. Julián Álvarez, who replaced Carrascal, almost scored the third goal by means of a shot from outside the box, after a good through pass by De La Cruz.

River recovered in the end and started to control the ball better and to get close to Cambeses’s goal. Finally, the third goal was scored after a great right-footed shot by De La Cruz. Thus, el Más Grande got to the top of the group tied on points with Argentinos and Boca Juniors. The next match will take place on Sunday night, against Arsenal.
