River will have the best playing field in the country

Taking advantage of the months ahead in which matches will be played behind closed doors, Club Atlético River Plate is starting renovation works which are unprecedented in Argentine football: the whole playing field will be replaced by a state-of-the-art hybrid system that will finally put an end to many of the problems which playing fields in the country have. The combination of new reinforced grass and a state-of-the-art field aeration mechanism puts the new Monumental Stadium’s playing field on par with the best stadiums in the world, in accordance with the standards suggested by FIFA and CONMEBOL for international tournaments. Thanks to this new system -similar to the one implemented in the Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United stadiums, among many others-, the grass in the new playing field will last throughout the year, avoiding the problems brought about by the grass species transitions made thus far. Nor will the field have the water absorption problems which it suffers from during stormy days. Thanks to these improvements, the field will be safer and more stable to play on, which will translate into greater comfort for professional football players. To carry out these works, the playing field will be lowered down to the optimal level defined by the geotechnical study conducted in the last few weeks. Furthermore, in terms of infrastructure, two very significant changes will be made to the stadium: the athletics track will be removed and a new single tunnel will be built for both the home and away teams to enter the playing field. These transformations will allow bleachers to be closer to the playing field in the future. The works are framed within the scheduled yearly repair plans, financed with the Club’s current income, and will be cancelled during the next twelve months. Regarding dates, it will be finished by early 2021. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

WHAT WILL THE NEW PLAYING FIELD BE LIKE? The Monumental Stadium’s playing field will have a state-of-the-art hybrid grass system and an aeration system which is on par with that of the best stadiums in the world.

HEALTHIER AND STRONGER GRASS The reinforced natural grass system with fiber injection technology will allow more hours of use than a traditional field. The aerating technology will help to develop the roots and will lead to the growth of healthier, stronger grass, which will increase the quality of the playing field and lower maintenance costs. With these technologies, for example, it was possible to keep the 2018 World Cup Luzhniki Stadium’s playing field in optimal conditions during the five weeks of intensive use during

the World Cup (when it was used the same amount of time a playing field is used during a whole year in England’s Premier League).

EXCELLENT CONDITION IN ADVERSE WEATHER The aerating technology will also allow to proactively manage surface moisture content and remove excess water in seconds, all of which will minimize the risk of damage when facing bad weather conditions. It will also increase ventilation in the grass root zone to the essential levels needed for healthy growth and it will mitigate potential problems.

OPTIMAL FIELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR The aerating system will allow to have an optimal temperature in the grass root zone during the winter and summer months with heating and cooling functions, which will prevent seasonal deterioration of the playing field.
